My two weans (Madeleine, 9 & 1/2 yrs and Isaac, 11 yrs) are both well up for this and also for dipping their toes into the road race scene. Upshot being that I now have to get them road bikes. Any thoughts? I was thinking Decathlon but would be happy to look at decent 2nd hand offerings.

Looking forward to welcoming Isaac and Madeleine to the club. Re bikes Islabikes are hard to beat quality wise but there are good offerings from Moda, Dawes and Decathlon. I have to say that, value for money wise, its hard to beat the junior version of the Triban 3 at Decathlon.

We have six young people joining the clubs youth section. There are three more folks thinking about joining. Thats before the press release was sent out to all primary and secondary schools on Glasgow Southside and before Scottish Cycling have advertised us. Pauline will be organising the press release and Sophie at Scottish Cycling will be helping us with the advertising. Training has been organised namely "safeguarding and protecting children" and "basic first aid" for the 3 coaches and the Clubs Welfare Officer. Beverly Ashton has volunteered to be the Clubs Welfare Officer. PVG's (Police Checks) are being carried out by Scottish Cycling for the 3 coaches and the clubs Welfare Officer.
Coaching will start on Friday 25th of April and will run until Friday 20th of June. Thats nine coaching sessions. After the summer holidays coaching will restart on Friday 15th of August and will run until Friday October 10th. Thats nine coaching sessions. The coaching will introduce skills for track, time trial, road, mtb and cyclo cross racing. Im going to liase with the West of Scotland Cycling Association Youth Development Officer re access to the track coaching sessions. I might also try and see if we can have a taster session of cycle speedway. The coaching is aimed at preparing the young folk for racing and there is a full calendar of criteriums, dirt criteriums, mountain bike races and tack racing available in Glasgow. I am in the process of applying for a grant for the youth section. I would suggest that, if successful, monies will be used to fund the purchase of club jerseys.
Now there are a number of things to firm up namely;
1) What is the name of the youth section? 2) Do we use the same name as the club ie Glenmarnock Wheelers? 3) Do we want a separate jersey design or use the current Glenmarnock design? 4) How do we decide the above? 5) What time do the sessions start?
There are also practical tasks for the coaches and welfare officer to be divied up, namely writing the curriculum, updating the paperwork and first aid kit and producing a design for flyers. It would also be good to allow the parents and young folk to meet each other before the coaching starts so I suggest we meet in the Wholefoods Cafe in Giffnock and have a quick natter over coffee. Wednesday or Fridays are good for me. Thoughts

The track session was excellent the first hour was an olympic warm up routine kris struggled at first then picked up a bit. On the track kris loved it he new many of the other riders through the accreds. Kris has ordered his own rollers lol. The coaching was very good lots of technical stuff and it was a very hard workout i didnt think kris would last but the longer it went on the better he did. One of the riderz coaches showed him how to use the rollers and he really enjoyed it. We will keep you updated on our progress. Big race next week whooooo. Cheers, Scott

We have just spent 7 days at Barend lodges in Dumfries and Galloway for my first mountain bike holiday. I managed to do 4 out 7 Stanes. 1/ Kirrioughtree we managed to do the Blue trail in very tough conditions it was good fun though. 2/Dalbeattie we did the Blue first time round and then returned to do some green, blue and Red. Dalbeattie is my favourite so far. 3/ Ae we took on the red route very tough but also very exciting. Dad had a few crashes one at the skills section. Hahaha 4/ Mabie we did the Green trail for a warm up then after lunch in haunted hotel we raced round the Blue trail which i won easily.
Overall a great time had by all and I will definately return.
