I was just about to confirm until I read that Kevin was pushing off again. That wee boy from the TT is scarred for life (literally).

Douglas Beverley Trefor Kieran Virginia
Good on yer Virginia for stepping up to the plate.
Gotta be more folks wanting to test themselves on the climb.
Also require two more marshals and two time keepers.

Surprised we need so many marshals. No-one's likely to get lost on a short hill climb.

The marshals are needed to help keep the riders safe on the double hairpin and at the finish.

What hill have you decided on? A bit ridiculous having more officials than riders, no?

Douglas the course is the one we looked at on the club run. The road from the Stewerton Rd to the A77. It is not ridiculous to have the number of marshals I am suggesting. The marshals are there to keep the riders safe and their number has nothing to do with how many folk are doing the climb.

That's the climb I thought you were going for Trefor, hence my confusion. I'd have thought you'd only need someone at the bridge to warn riders to slow down. Other than that it's just a straightforward ride to the top where you'd have a time-keeper.

The road is narrow and has three sharp bends that restrict vision. It is open to traffic that wont be expecting cyclists to be haring up it. Cyclists will be racing up it and then cycling down it. Add all these factors together and it suggests to me that someone on a blind bend warning riders of approaching traffic and each other is an entirely sensible thing to do. At last years Up The Kirk Hillclimb every bend was marshalled and that was on a closed road. The club has a duty to look out for the welfare of its riders and thats why we have to a) seek permission from the police, b) risk assess the course and c) adequately marshall it.

Entirely up to you Trefor. Seems like overkill to me. Perhaps the wrong choice of hill if you think it's so unsafe? Surely it would be better to get as many people riding on the day rather than having half the club marshal the event? We have enough trouble getting people out on the bike as it is.

Hullo All, I recce'd the route earlier this evening and it all looks in order to me. I see from early on in this thread that Morley and Pauline have already volunteered to be marshals. I would say we can get by with only one more; although two more would be 'best-case-scenario'. Having spoken to a few BC Commissaires over the last year, they'd say "the more marshals, the better", so I can see exactly where Tref is coming from. The route is on the attached map. I've also emailed Sean about timekeeping. My thoughts are that the two timekeepers are at the top and bottom of the hill respectively, with synchronised watches and make a note of when each rider leaves the start line and arrives at the finish line. Glenmarnock Hill Climb - 6 Sep 2014.doc.docx (147.75 KB) Can someone confirm the start time for me, please? Ta.

Robert Im expecting you on the start line but if you are determined not to ride you can marshal. Re start time riders and volunteers can assemble at 9:30 am with first man off at 10am. This gives everyone a chance to get in position and sort out any glitches. It also gives the riders the chance to warm up and the A77 would be ideal for this. For those driving to the event you can park in the layby opposite the turn off to the road the course is on.
Start sheet;
Douglas Beverley Trefor Kieran Virginia Struan Bob Carl
Starter: Kevin Duffy Time Keepers: Sean Murphy and Jim McCann Marshals: Pauline Taylor Robert Waddell Morley Rowe Terry McGee
No more helpers needed but if you want to race note your interest below.
