ENABLE Scotland are once again delighted to offer you the opportunity to take part in this exclusive cycle challenge. Following on from the success of last years event and due to popular demand we have added new challenges and a third category.
Cyclists will now be able to take part as Duos, Teams of 4 and Solo participants and we have also incorporated a 6 and 12 hour challenges making this event inclusive for all levels of cyclists.
Knockhill Racing Circuit is an exciting track to cycle, giving excellent road conditions on the 1.3 mile track yet this is no mean feat as one of our team participants from last year explains their stats:
Neil Johnson from Classic Racing Team - 2012 Team Participant
"Mount Everest is approx 8850 meters - the height difference at Knockhill is 60 meters from highest to lowest. We did 324 laps (I think) 324 x 60 =19940m of climbing so between us we've climbed and descended Everest twice on a bike in 25 hours and each of us got half way up Everest .......... and back down of course and it felt cold enough just without the travelling"
With a registration fee of only £20 per person the below minimum sponsorships are applicable:
Participant Categories Minimum Sponsorship:
6HR - £180 Per Person
12Hr - £230 Per Person
24HR - £330 Per Person
Graeme Obree and last years solo winner Doug Wood took to the track at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Sunday 16th June to officially launch this extreme event. Graeme is currently in training to attempt the IHPVA world land speed record which will take place during September 2013 at Battle Mountain, Nevada. Before Graeme heads off on this extreme challenge he will be supporting ENABLE Scotland in promoting the Cycle the World 2013 event.
First on the agenda is a taster session at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Saturday 20th July from 4pm. Graeme and ENABLE Scotland Staff will hold an information and question and answer session at 4pm in the Media Centre to give you the opportunity to ask all the questions you want about preparing for such an extreme event, facilities that will be available on the day / night, and cycling in general. Then at 5pm you can take to the track to experience the fantastic road cycling conditions that Knockhill Racing Circuit offer.
If you are interested in coming along to the taster session please get in touch to book your place and to register for the amazing 24hr cycle challenge go to www.cycletheworld.org.uk
