Tref and I did the first bout of TTT training last night on the A77, nailing numbers 5 and 9 from The Rules in the process (reminder: www.velominati.com/the-rules/ ) It was a bit cold and rainy, but otherwise quite survivable. Approximately 10 cars passed us during the whole ride and none of them were souped-up, boy-racer types. As the days get longer and the nights shorter, I hope to see more of us out there. Cheers.

Pauline and I are in. Only 26 places left. We are not risking the attentions of imaginary boy racers this Monday but might steel ourselves for next!

Tref, Alistair and I did some Team TT training on the A77 last night. All good and, again, the road was practically deserted with only a handful of cars passing us. Double and single pace line technique improving...

Not to be outdone, Sean and I were out on Saturday afternoon. No mudguards, drafting best with goggles.

With the upcoming Icebreaker TT in mind, this Sunday the 2nd Feb, St. Christies are running their second winter 10 of the year.
As usual the course is the A77 and first rider is off at 10.30am. Riders can if they wish ride the event as a 2 up in preparation for the Icebreaker.
Hope to see some of you there

Morley has had to pull out of this event so we now need a new ride partner for Sean. Volunteers please. Lets not leave Sean on his own.

Start times Virginia and Pauline off at 9:13am Kevin and Douglas off at 9:41am Trefor and Alastair off at 10:15am Strip and course details below Fullarton Wheelers Ice Breaker 2-up Time Trial on 16/02/2014 Eglinton Country Park, Irvine Sign-on from 08:00 Start 09:01 Organiser - Peter Beukleman for Fullarton Wheelers CC Course description AY4 - Start at lamp no.R5 opposite entrance to Eglinton Country Park. Follow A78 south, under two interchanges and turn at Dundonald Camp Roundabout. Return to finish on slip road at Eglinton Interchange. Please note that there is a possibility that marshals will not be at all junctions. It is therefore recommended that all riders familiarise themselves with the course prior to the race. Please take care at all junctions, roundabouts and the reduction from 3 to 2 lanes on the southbound A78 - marshals cannot direct or stop traffic – normal rules of the road apply and you are responsible for your own safety. All Riders need to bring their Membership / Licence or pay for a Day Licence if not already paid. Eglinton Park Staff have asked that riders do not park on the grass alongside the road through the park. Please use the main car park and the overflow car park which is a few meters further along on the right - between the two areas there's plenty of parking for everyone. www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/358191685/

A cold but clear day saw Pauline and Virginia, Trefor and Alastair and Kevin and Douglas put themselves against the clock in this legendary event promoted by the Fullarton Wheelers. In an attempt to make things as hard as possible Virginia decided to ride the race with full mudguards and lights in place and the pair came in with a time of 32:06 minutes. Douglas, still traumatised by losing his bike off the roof on the way down, and Kevin romped home with a time of 25:16 minutes. Alastair, in his first open competition, and Trefor just piped 28 minutes with a time of 27:53 minutes. Fastest on the day was Silas Goldworthy and Alan Thompson of Sandy Wallace Cycles with a time of 20:21. 55 teams took part with the Glenmarnock occupying the 36th, 48th and 54th postions. Many thanks to the Fullarton Wheelers for a great race.

Yup, good fun all round. Douglas and I think we can chisel off quite a bit from our time for next year by (a) being in the correct gear on the start line (b) not trying to cycle up slip roads whilst on the course, and (c) knowing where the chequered flag is. My personal favourite story of the day is hearing that Virginia and Pauline stopped at the roundabout for chocolate. Priceless! pdf of the results attached, as downloaded from the FWCC website.

Guilty as charged on (a) but was only following Kev on (b) (I thought he must know a short cut). I think (c) took us all by surprise. I'd also like to add (d) make sure TT bike is firmly attached to roof bars before driving on motorway (being on the TT bike would've definitely helped our time) and (e) not trying to clip into pedals whilst wearing cleat covers.
Kev, did you happen to mention to Willy Bain about checking over cracks on carbon?

Douglas, I spoke to WB and he said that a very close check by yourself with a magnifying glass should suffice. Cracks in carbon show up quite obviously, seemingly. Go for a couple of 'gentle' rides and check in between too. Carbon much stronger than you think, he says. If you're still unsure there's a company called Carbontech down South who can do a deeper scan but they're not cheap. WB is happy to chat if you want to phone or pop in.

Thanks for asking Kev. Will do as he suggests. Am guessing the front wheel is goosed but might take it into him.
